I saw an interview this week with a man who was recognized by his company because he recognized more of his colleagues than anyone else in the business. It is one of the largest companies in Australia, which makes this an impressive achievement.
He was a gracious, humble man, and when asked how he managed to recognize so many people, he had an easy answer.
"I ask myself every morning, who do I have to thank today?"
Almost 300 people have been recognized and thanked by this one person for their good work in the past 12 months.
This is a remarkable legacy, and I can only imagine the positive culture that he shaped not only in his own department, but in teams across the company.
Who do you have to thank today?
Someone in your family?
One of your team?
your manager?
The security guard at the front door?
The cleaning lady who is doing her best to get a safe job during a global pandemic?
Your barista?
Your child's teacher / trainer / tutor?
I would like to encourage you to be very aware of this.
Find a specific person every day and thank them for something.
Look them in the eye when you do it.
Make sure you know how much you value them.
You don't need a fancy corporate reward program to do this.
Only awareness and love.
Who will you thank today?
