My journey with Physiopedia began two years ago. As a volunteer, it's my job to review content and create new pages. Last year I took on the responsibility of research manager, so I had to update Physiopedia Pages with the latest physiotherapy-related research. As I was updating the research, I came across many articles in the Oncology category that required attention. For some pages content had to be developed, for others it had to be reviewed. I presented it to the team and was then asked to run the Topic of the Month (TOTM) for the Oncology category. At first I was eager to take responsibility as it was my first time. However, I decided to head the TOTM.

Steps I Took

I've searched through all the articles and added the appropriate pages to the category.
I went through each page and highlighted the ones that needed editing. I also made a list of new pages to add.
When the lists were ready, I shared the details with the team on Slack.
I answered questions on the topic and gave feedback on the work done.
Regular communication with team members made it easier to achieve the task.

The result

The category Oncology now comprises over 60 pages. The team did an excellent job of handling the pages. Some great sites have been added by our volunteers. Here are the links to these pages:

My experience

I enjoyed organizing the TOTM. It was an exciting job: leading the TOTM and coordinating it with everyone. It looked challenging at first, but with proper planning the process went smoothly. Whenever I got stuck, I reached out to my teammates, because you're never alone with a team. It feels great to see the category so well developed and it was only possible with great support from Kim and all of the team members.

Running TOTM has been an enjoyable experience indeed, and I encourage volunteers to take on the exciting role of TOTM. Thanks again to the whole team.

How do I become a volunteer?

All of our volunteers complete the volunteer orientation course, the next course starts on Monday, September 7th! After successfully completing this course, all of our volunteers spend six months on the content development team. This consolidates everything you learned in the course and gives you the opportunity to demonstrate where your unique skills and interests lie. After your six month review, you will be assigned a specific role that matches the skills you have demonstrated, as well as your individual qualifications, experience and interests. If you would like to take this course, please click the button below and join us on an amazing journey!
