In his timeless classic How to Make Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie tells the fable of sun and wind.
The controversial, the stronger, and the wind said, "I'll prove it is me. Do you see the old man down there with a coat? I bet I can take him off faster than you."
So the sun went behind a cloud and the wind blew until it was almost a tornado, but the harder it blew, the tighter the old man clung to his coat.
Finally the wind calmed down and gave up, and then the sun came out from behind the clouds and smiled gently at the old man.
He was currently wiping his forehead and taking off his coat.
The sun then told the wind that gentleness and kindness were always stronger than anger and violence.
Remember that the next time you try to influence someone.
A friendly word and a gentle manner will always be more powerful and deliver better results in the long term than bluff and bluster.
