This is the last part of the 4-course mental health program to be released.
Evidence is growing to suggest that mental health problems are responsible for a large part of the disability burden experienced by people around the world. Physiotherapists who are in close personal contact with clients in healthcare must understand the effects of mental health on the conditions they are experiencing and how their management can positively influence this aspect of the well-being of their patients.
In this exclusive mental health course program, we will examine a number of relevant topics and how physiotherapists can address this important and complex problem.
What influences mental health?
Unfortunately, traumatic experiences are part of human life and can affect a person's body, mind, psyche and physical and emotional self-regulation. After a traumatic experience, some people experience physical symptoms, and primary practitioners should be aware of this when they see clients after a trauma. The physical symptoms can range from sleep disorders and substance disorders to disorders of various body systems. There is also a link between trauma and chronic illnesses. For these reasons, practitioners should be aware of traumatized health care and understand the general and stress response to trauma.

Factors Influencing Mental Health
It is critical for healthcare workers to understand the impact of lifestyle factors and the adverse or positive experiences in people facing mild to severe mental health problems. Traumatic experiences, even if they happened in childhood, can continue to add stress in adulthood because poor lifestyle habits are seen as a survival strategy or coping mechanism. These people may be at high risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease due to the side effects of medication, alcohol and smoking combined with a sedentary lifestyle. Exercise and nutrition are considered core elements of lifestyle changes and are essential for physical health. Another important factor is poor sleep quality, as it can be the consequence or factor of a mental illness and can influence other lifestyle factors.

Basics of Mental Health
Mental health is the business of every physiotherapist / physiotherapist. As a key component of the bio-psycho-social model used to understand a patient's individual circumstances, mental health problems in physiotherapy are not limited to only those patients who have psychiatric diagnoses. As a healthcare professional with a long-term personal relationship with their clients, a physiotherapist is uniquely able to identify and take into account this aspect of their patient's well-being. As a result, physiotherapeutic approaches are increasingly being used to treat patients even with severe psychological problems.

Movement as EBP in mental health
Physical activity and movement are increasingly recognized as effective components in the treatment of various mental illnesses. There is increasing evidence of the inclusion of PA programs as a supplement to the treatment of various illnesses for depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and drug abuse. These research results support the inclusion of clinical PA programs in psychiatric treatment, which are supported by committed clinicians (movement physiologists / physiotherapists). There are now many examples of the successful integration of clinical PA programs into psychiatric treatment facilities.
