Tomorrow morning is Saturday morning, which means one thing for our family, Parkrun.
I will leave early in the morning with the children who are awake and would like to take me on a 5 km timed run in the local botanical gardens.
Sometimes I wonder why I am doing this.
I can no longer walk as I used to and after a 10 month break due to Covid bans I am even slower.
It will most likely rain tomorrow morning, which can make it uncomfortable.
I am tired after a busy week and could take my sleep.
Sometimes my knees creak, my calves cramp and my lungs feel like they're bursting.
Then I remember that although I can no longer walk the way I used to, I can still run.
I may not be as fast as my own teenagers, but my legs are still turning.
The day will come when I can no longer run.
Hopefully there is still a long way to go, but it will come at some point.
But in the meantime I'll set my alarm clock, get my Parkrun barcode and enjoy the challenge of cutting my times back down.
