Logan, Hayden and Madison are ready for their first day at school

It's this time of year again when we send and receive Christmas cards and letters with updates from friends and family. In this sense, here is the annual message from our tribe.

2019 was a year of massive change for our family, with our big move to Bendigo after a role change for me. The children showed exceptional resilience when they said goodbye to their friends and went to a new school. Your transition to our new life was really remarkable. We bought half a morning here in Bendigo and are happy about the prospect of building our dream family house and a children's pool there.

Our eldest son, Hayden turned 14 in March and is now officially taller than me. He has had another reasonably successful year with his sporting activities, although his Footy team has not done as well as in previous seasons. He won school awards for cross-country skiing, athletics and soccer, won the state title of Christian schools at 400 and 800 meters and mastered the challenge of playing basketball with a very talented team here in Bendigo in Division 1. He started his first paid job that year as a boundary umpire for Australian junior and senior rules football games. This required a lot of hard work and dedication, as he often had to walk over 12 km during a game to keep up with the game. It was a great experience for him and he enjoyed the freedom and responsibility to save and spend his own money.

Madison turned 12 in November and also had a wonderful year. She is also very active, with a passion for netball, gymnastics and life in general. She also did very well with her athletics and made it back to the regional level for cross country. Maddi also tried basketball and got her first impression of Australian football with her school team. She somehow saw her passion for life as the driving force behind our family, who is committed to park runs, for which I am grateful.

Logan was (of course) also 12 years old in November and also had a great year. He has continued to play basketball and, due to his size, has earned a reputation as a defender, although he often plays against children who are 2 years older than him. The bear has grown about 13 cm this year and now looks me almost in the eye. His wicked sense of humor is evolving and he has enjoyed staying in touch with some of his friends from Melbourne through online games.

Karen had a great year of change and had to leave the job she loved to make our move to Bendigo easier. She was the driving force behind our building plans and mastered the changes with serenity. She still loves watching the kids in their various activities and is an incredibly supportive mother and wife.

There were big changes for me, with the wonderful opportunity to work as a customer care manager at a regional telecommunications company based in Bendigo. The role started in September and the first few months were challenging as I spent my weeks in Bendigo, the weekends in Melbourne with the family and the occasional trip to the south coast of New South Wales where some of my employees work. I was very lucky with this role and I love the people I work with. This year I started running for the first time, and 5 km of park runs are part of my routine on Saturday morning. My creaking knees don't like it, but my overall health and fitness have improved dramatically since the beginning.

As a family, we love Christmas and cannot wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus together with the extended family. I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and festive season and thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the year.
