Another month has passed and we have another opportunity to celebrate the work of our team and highlight the commitment of a particular team member. This month we are pleased to highlight the enthusiasm and thorough work of Chelsea McLene.
Although Chelsea is still a physiotherapy student, her influence on the profession is already remarkable. She is a high performing volunteer for Physiopedia and is currently part of the Physiopedia & Physioplus rotation team. This means that she is involved in many projects at both Physiopedia and Physioplus and makes really effective contributions.
It is an enormous help because it is always at hand. Thank you Chelsea for always smiling and inspiring others to contribute. Well done as a top contributor for August.
Your name : Chelsea McLene
Active time at Physiopedia: I started as a volunteer at Physiopedia in September 2020. There are 11 months in August 2021.
Current role at Physiopedia: I create and review content and update pages with new evidence-based research. I am currently part of the volunteer rotation program and assigned to working with the Physioplus team. I will be working on physiopedia pages next month, including the volunteer rotation program.
Where did you go to university / college? Alvas College of Physiotherapy, Moodabirdri, India.
Where do you work? I am studying physiotherapy in India.
Describe your role: I am a 4th year physiotherapy student.
What is the best thing about being a physiotherapist? Physiotherapy is a profession in which we keep learning new things and helping people. It's amazing that we can change someone's life and bring life to their days. The most rewarding part is helping the patient in all aspects of their existence.
What are some of the more challenging aspects of being a physical therapist? I can bond mentally and emotionally to a patient; that can be a challenge. Other challenges can include long hours of treatment in a clinic and the associated stress. Physiotherapy is a challenging profession; However, as a physical therapist, watching people you help get stronger is incredibly rewarding. Seeing the happiness on their face as they get healthier is a reward in itself.
What are your professional passions? I try to keep myself up to date on all rehab information. I have taken many courses on related subjects. I also try to attend webinars and conferences as often as possible.
What are some of your personal passions? I am passionate about everything I do and have a steady source of motivation that drives me to do my best. I am interested in music, gardening and also sports. I love working in the garden and spending time with my pets.
What would you advise a newly qualified physiotherapist to do?
1. We all learn new things. So don't forget to think about continuing education; it will really pay off.
2. Don't be shy. Create networks, discuss clinical cases and obtain different opinions.
3. Make yourself comfortable being uncomfortable. We are all human and we make mistakes. Take things in a positive light and learn from every situation.
4. Set goals and ask for feedback.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In the next few years I would like to develop patient management skills. In five years I would like to have gained experience in treating patients. I will look for ways to expand my responsibilities and serve / help people in any way I can.
What's the best part about being a volunteer in physiopedia? As Physiopedia volunteers, we review or create pages based on evidence-based science. We learn a lot of new knowledge along the way! Physiopädie has the best team with mutually supportive members.
To what extent has working as a voluntary physiopedia volunteer contributed to your professional development / career development? The knowledge gained from revising and updating pages and the interest in further training help me a lot in my professional development. The selection of research-based evidence helps me stay up to date with the latest findings.
What are your hopes and wishes for physiopedia? I hope Physiopedia grows with many informative and helpful pages, while each reader gets the best and most up-to-date information.
What is your favorite course at Physioplus? Culture and communication, the person behind the patient and the environmental physiotherapy program.
