The MOOC – understanding rehabilitation as a health strategy

The need for physical rehabilitation and assistive technology services is an urgent and growing global problem. According to a recent report, 2.41 billion people worldwide live in conditions that would benefit from rehabilitation services, with around 1 in 3 people in need of rehabilitation services due to an illness or injury. The proportion of the world's population over 60 will double in the next 30 years, the majority of whom will be living with chronic diseases, particularly noncommunicable diseases. In addition, there are around 150 million children and young people with disabilities, and injuries of all age groups are becoming more and more common due to conflicts, rapid urbanization and motorization.

These changing health and demographic trends are contributing to a rapid global increase in the number of people suffering from functional impairment, resulting in enormous unmet rehabilitation needs. Much of this unmet need is focused on the poorest and most vulnerable populations in low and middle income countries and in conflict-affected environments who are often ill-equipped to meet this growing need for rehabilitation services. With strategic interventions we can now make a difference and prevent the suffering of millions of people, but to do that we need to understand how rehabilitation systems work.

You will complete approx. 4-6 working hours per week for 4 weeks and after passing the final quiz and completing all necessary learning activities you will receive a final certificate as well as CPD points and all available CEUs.
