Richard Yep, CEO of ACA

Every year my April column seems to remind you that this is the month of awareness-raising for counseling – a recognition we came up with many, many years ago. I felt that there were so many stories to tell, so much to be proud of and so many activities that I could do that a single "week of counseling awareness" would simply not be enough. So we have a full month instead, and even that sometimes seems too short.

The Month of Counseling Awareness is designed to improve understanding of the wonderful work you do every day. As some of me have heard, consultants are great lawyers for their clients and students, but not always in isolation. I hope the month of Advisory Awareness will be a time to let others know about one of the greatest professions in the world.

Since we know your time is limited, ACA has provided additional information on our website this year to help you celebrate this special month. In addition, we have expanded our event through partnerships with key organizations to draw public attention to the advice and role of professional advisors. I would ask you to contact organizations you are associated with to let them know that it is an honor for us to be part of the Advisory Awareness Month celebration. Our "question" to our partners is as follows:

I hope all of you will participate in our social media challenges, which include a photo contest and our # BurnBrightNotOut contest. Another part of our one-month event takes place on Friday April 10th when we ask people to wear the Teal color to show solidarity for professional advice.

We strive to make this the best counseling awareness month ever. I hope that we can count on you to help us raise awareness of the important work that you are all doing.
This is a great opportunity to let our various communities know about professional advice.

I think the Consultation Awareness Month could also be a "Consultant Recognition Month" because that's what I feel about you all. I hope you celebrate yourself by recognizing yourself in a special way. Please know that your efforts are appreciated and that your work (although sometimes exhausting) really makes the world a better place.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge so many of you for the work you do with clients and students regarding the concern about the new Corona Virus (COVID-19). I know that this epidemic caused a lot of fear and stress. I also know that we have to do everything to protect ourselves. I encourage you to follow the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. ACA also has information about COVID-19 on our website.

As always, I look forward to your comments, questions and thoughts. Call me at 800-347-6647. 231 or email me at [email protected]. You can also follow me on Twitter: @Richyep.

Be healthy.
