Where we are going now, we are surrounded by hand disinfectants.
I have a bottle on my desk at work and use it several times a day.
There is a donor when I enter my building and outside of the elevators.
Every visit to the supermarket requires a generous dose before entering.
It's everywhere and the smell too.
Whenever I put my hands close to my face, I smell the smell and it is a smell that we will all remember after this pandemic is over.
Our sense of smell is closely related to our memories, which means that future sniffers of hand sanitizers will bring memories of that time back to many of us.
My question today is what will it remind us of?
Will it take us back to a time that is full of fear or resilience?
Will we remember isolation or when we found innovative ways to connect?
Are we going to think about the opportunities that have been taken away from us or about further pursuing our calling?
Do we remember constant fear or steadfast hope?
I pray it's the hope we remember.
That is what we need to assert ourselves.
