One of the most important things we can do in our lives is continuous development. In fact, evolution is necessary in all aspects of our lives in order to overcome the hurdles ahead and make us stumble or fall. But do opinions or biased opinions help us in this process?
Years ago, trying to keep up with world events, I asked myself to read the newspaper at lunchtime. It served two purposes; the mental power of knowledge and a guaranteed lunch break from work. I generally read from the same newspaper company every day. One day I read about a tragic event and I remember that it made me pretty sad. After lunch I went back to work and continued to think about what I had read.
Later in the day I passed an employee desk and noticed that she had the newspaper from the newspaper company's competition that I read every day on her desk and it covered the same story, but the heading was much different than the one I read earlier that day. I asked her if I could borrow it and then took it back to my desk and read it. The further I read the article, the more horrified I became. The story was the same subject, but was very contradictory to the article in the other newspaper.
Do opinions help us to develop or do they hinder us? I sat and read to keep up with world events. I just read a biased opinion based on an agenda that was pedaling. It was like I was back in school with the 'bad girls' who kept trying to turn me up against a friend for dressing up to express their character.
I decided that as much as I did. When I turned away from this behavior in school because I knew and liked my friend, I had to find a way to do the same now and in the future. I wanted to look at the overall picture of the situation to make a healthy decision for me regarding politics, war, health care, community events, cultural differences, etc. Because I understood that a biased opinion based on an agenda only causes hatred. Fear, war, bad political practices and ineffective lawmaking to name a few.
I understood that I had to create a healthy pattern to stay on the path of evolution. I would absorb, process and express my opinions so that I was my best self, a better parent, a good member of mine Career and could also be a helpful member of society. I decided that if I wanted to learn about a subject, I had to read several books on the subject and scour the knowledge with biased opinions to get the facts.
It was a longer process than what I had learned in school when I was young when we received a book to study a subject, and this book was what we had learned and how our knowledge has been tested on this particular topic.
As Life My eyes were more open to conversations between biased opinions, and it was interesting for me to watch and listen to heated moods when ideas were challenged (sometimes with facts only) and to see how the thoughts turned out bringing people closer to other knowledge bearers when they do. Knowledge challenged a belief they had.
Through these interactions, I learned that I had to create friendships that understood respectful, intelligent challenges to continue my evolution. I am grateful to these friends for understanding and respecting me and for giving me the opportunity to understand and respect their knowledge and beliefs.
From my experience, I learned that my approach to knowledge can be taught to others to try to do so, but I also discovered that my approach had to evolve and include kindness and words that included were spoken with tenderness.
If you are interested in this concept of inner evolution, try the following: Did you want to learn more about it? Read as many articles as possible from different sources. Find someone near you to have a conversation on this particular topic (just let them know that you are trying something new). Explain (with kindness and tenderness) what you have read on this topic and what you find interesting and interesting / or not found interesting. After the conversation, write down what happened between the two. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with another person and then step 5.
Continue this process with as many people as you want and watch how your communication develops. Take a look at who you are starting to feel closer to, who is getting your respect, or what new issues are generating empathy in you. This is the beginning of a new development in your life.
When you expand your mind, you get a deeper insight into things, a deeper connection to the people you love, a real respect for those you don't know. If we don't agree, communication channels open up and there are endless opportunities for your development – and the ability to do a part to create a better place for everyone.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we were all interested enough to make an effort? For a better place for all of us and involved in this collective evolution every day?
