Learn how to tell the difference between hip and buttock pain with these new courses, exclusive to Physioplus.
Hip, back and buttock pain often overlap and lead to difficulties in a clear and concise diagnosis. There are a number of conditions that fit into this “hip overlap conditions” category. Examples of these conditions are:
The differential diagnosis of pain and functional disorders is a challenging task due to the complicated anatomy of the sacroiliac joint, the lumbar spine and the buttocks area. The diagnosis is challenged even more by the inconsistency of the MRI findings and imaging with the symptoms that lead to a misdiagnosis of the conditions. The use of subjective assessments and special tests can give an idea of the symptoms without indicating the source of the pain. To date, there are no firm guidelines for diagnosing buttock pain.
In these new courses, Tanya Bell-Jenje will teach you some top clinical tips to help you assess and manage buttock pain.

Courses in the program
Differentiating buttock pain – sacroiliac joint disorders
Assessment of the cause of buttock pain
Deep Gluteal Pain Syndrome
The Deep Gluteal Pain Syndrome is characterized by pain in the buttocks that can radiate to the leg and has a significant impact on the quality of life and participation in activities and sports. The complex gluteal anatomy and potential for the involvement of other related structures make differential diagnosis difficult. In two related courses, Tanya Bell-Jenje discusses the differential diagnosis of sacroiliac joint involvement and gluteal tendinopathy. In this course she will discuss the differential diagnosis of deep gluteal pain and its management.
Clarify overlapping symptoms
Differentiation of the buttock tendinopathy
The differential diagnosis of deep buttock pain is a challenge due to the complex anatomy of the region. In other related courses, Tanya Bell-Jenje discussed sacroiliac joint dysfunction and deep gluteal pain syndrome, as well as their symptoms. In this course, you will learn about Gluteal Tendinopathy, also known as Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS), another condition that causes lateral and posterior hip pain.
