Physiopedia is a UK-based charity and the world's most viewed online resource for physical therapists. All content is created by volunteers to share with the global physical therapy community – a wiki for physical therapists.

A wiki is a collaborative tool with which people can come together and contribute and modify knowledge pages. In the case of Physiopedia, it is physiotherapists who come together to create a shared knowledge resource tailored to the needs of our professions. Over the years this has evolved into information that is relevant to both other health professionals and patients.

A Wiki You Can Trust

As with all wikis, there are always discussions and concerns about quality assurance as all pages were created and edited by the community from around the world. To date over 3,000 pages have been produced and we have performed a number of processes to ensure that these pages are relevant and accurate.

Every month over 3 million individual physiotherapists from almost every country in the world learn from the Physiopedia website.

Over 3 million people visit Physiopedia every month, so we have to do something right. So how do we maintain high standards on our sites?

1 Robust editor training process

To ensure that pages are relevant to physical therapists, we have a policy that our pages are created by physical therapists. Over the years we have built a strong network of volunteers and contributors who devote their time to creating and reviewing content.

We have pages that are created and reviewed by students and clinicians as part of Content Development Projects, Physiopedia Volunteers and also by experts as part of Course Development Projects.

2 Transparent quality assurance processes

Physiopedia has set itself the goal of offering you the best possible educational content while at the same time expanding the technological limits of our profession. For this reason, Physiopedia has both a board of trustees and an advisory board.

The trustees are responsible for controlling and directing the affairs of the charity. The Physiopedia Trustees bring together unique skills and experience to support the Physiopedia charity and achieve its goals. The trustees are supported in their governance function by the advisory board.

The Physiopedia Advisory Board was established to provide the Physiopedia Trustees with professional, globally relevant and project-related advice and information. The members of the Advisory Board are distinguished individuals who bring together unique skills and experience to support the Physiopedia charity and achieve its goals.

We also have our Content Manager, Kim Jackson, and a team of dedicated volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to ensure that Physiopedia is a source of accurate, relevant, factual and credible information drawn from current research. which help to inform practice and decision-making. The team works hard to ensure the quality and improvement of the content on Physiopedia and is helping with the implementation of the Trustees plan.

3 quality standards

As a clinical reference for physiotherapists of all origins and specialties, it is important that our content meet the high standards expected of a professional resource. That is why we have quality standards that all of our contributors must adhere to. All posts should:

Be evidence-based summaries of a topic and be written clearly and concisely
be relevant for physiotherapy practice
be written in the mother tongue
Be up to date, evidence-based and referenced
Follow international professional practice and national codes of conduct
never be plagiarized

We also have formatting and style guidelines, which means that audiences get a consistent Physiopedia quality feel across the site.

4 different methods for creating content

We have several ways clinicians, teams, and organizations can contribute to the Physiopedia mission. This means that we are nurturing a community that ensures that great content on a wide variety of topics is created and continuously updated from many different perspectives.

Content Development Projects – These projects offer academic institutions, clinics and professional associations the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with physical therapists around the world.
The one-sided project – The project in which YOU take responsibility for only one page in Physiopedia. We invite every physiotherapist to take responsibility for only one page in Physiopedia. Updating your page takes very little time, can be recorded as a further education and training measure and is your altruistic contribution to our global profession.
Topic of the Month for Volunteer Teams – With nearly 4,000 pages of physical therapy content on Physiopedia, the team is constantly looking for missing pages, new information, formatting errors, and the latest insights into creating and updating Physiopedia pages. Because of this, every month we choose a topic that we want to focus on as a team.

5 Our audience holds us accountable

Physiopedia strives to meet not only its expectations, but also our audience and our community. As our resources become more numerous, it becomes difficult to monitor every page, and this is where you come in. As a resource for physical therapists we need your help to adhere to the standards we want to adhere to . We listen to your suggestions on how we can improve. So let's keep working together to create great content.
